Hard Work or Talent

Hard Work or Talent
The New York Times recently featured an OpEd piece on the topic of Talent vs Hard Work, which you can find here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/20/opinion/sunday/sorry-strivers-talent-matters.html

The author’s research concludes that high IQ results in a higher likelihood of success later in life, as measured by those that “earn a doctorate, secure a patent, publish an article in a scientific journal or publish a literary work.”

I believe their measurement for potential (IQ), and success (level of education, number of patents, etc) are flawed. Read More >>

Steve Jobs - Our Favorite Quotes

I once heard someone say “I don’t understand what the big deal is about Steve Jobs, all he did was invent the iPod, it’s not like he cured cancer”.  It’s easy to take for granted where the luxuries we all have come to expect in technology came from.  If you look back to what things were like before Apple stepped in, you can see not only did they innovate and bring some of the best products to market, but they pushed competitors to innovate and test their own limits.  Here are our 10 favorite quotes from the man who practically invented the modern day cell phone, tablet and MP3 player, and one of the greatest CEO’s to ever live, Steve Jobs: Read More >>

Bill Gates

I recently saw a video of Bill Gates in a Q&A session at the University of Washington, and really enjoyed his response to a simple question: how does one become as wealthy as Bill Gates?  He took the opportunity to hand out some serious advice, and although his delivery was light and casual, the message was extremely powerful.

The Problem with Airlines: Is it Us?

Plane

I was recently on a flight from Philadelphia to California on US Airways, who regularly gets destroyed in customer satisfaction surveys…but I had a great flight. This flight was comfortable, in coach class, and I promise you USAir is not paying me to write this. It was because of this flight that I have a new theory about the streak of poor airline satisfaction ratings: flying isn’t really that bad – we’re becoming more irrational as consumers, and there’s data to prove it. Nokia and Windows - Too Little Too Late?

Nokia decided to partner up with Microsoft on February 11th. Exciting! Nokia’s dying Symbian platform finally gets a replacement.  Yesterday Nokia showed us what’s in the lineup, demonstrating the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710, and announcing that the new phones will be available in the US “early 2012″.  But is it too little and too late to save the once-king cell phone manufacturer? ROKRZ6 + iPhone

There are countless articles about how the iPhone changed the mobile industry by way of brilliant innovation – but I want to address the other side of that equation – the abysmal products that were pushed by top manufacturers in the days leading up to the iPhone’s announcement that allowed it to stand out so strongly.  Read More >>

hard-drive-failures

Hard drives die pretty often.  In our office alone we’ve had 4 drives die in the last 4 years, 2 of them were only 1 year old!  It seemed unusual, but after doing some reading it’s not as uncommon as you might think.  Google did a study to try and determine what contributes to death, what signs may forewarn you and how often they actually die. What they found was fascinating.
